No Premiditation

Looking through glazed over
Bakery windows. My breath clouds
The curved glass. Silently salivating
Over chocolate chip cookies. But my needs
Remain unacknowledged, suppressed.
My hunger rises up, sending
An urgent message to my stomach
And, suddenly, I lurch forward
Into the shop, seizing everything I can
'There was no premeditation,' the court is told.

The Silent Soothsayer

I see an army on the march
Those generals believe they are marching to victory
And who am I to disillusion them?

My vision is a cleaver that could, with one blow,
Slice their monumental heart in two
But I keep silent, my red mouth firmly sealed

There will be no revelations from me
There will be no reverberations. I watch
As they head East, ready to slay the beast

I am curled up, in the branches
Of this old oak tree. It conceals me
This is nothing but a spectacle to me

Let them have their empire
Let them have their moment
At the centre of the stage

For I know, I am certain
That all this will be over
Soon enough and the curtain
Will fall upon them
And they will never rise again

In Search of the Divine

In search of the divine
Some shrine, something sublime
For shelter from innner wars
We pull down walls
We flee. We are refugees.
And in this sanctuary
We line up to be blessed
By holy men as again
And again more converts
Are drawn them
They flock to their feast
And ravenous hearts
Are nourished

Malevolence

They impose malevolent motives
On these abandoned appendages
Malice or mistake, they proceed
Unrestrained and there remains
Nothing that is Godlike here

Schooled in every region of the world
Geography pitted against custom, history
We did not deserve the prizes were given
For we were unwanted, we came unbidden

Stuck in the slime of strange salutations
In receipt of some watered down welcome
In a land with a sluggish heartbeat
And in this heat, we retreat

We are neither angels nor martyrs
We fear this fair earth - someone else's homeland
A complex wasteland of hideous magnitude
That we will never understand

Years go by and we remain unaware
But skewered to, stranded in this place
In which the natives turn to ice
They melt, they surge forth, we are drowned
